Hospice is generally thought of
as the last resort for someone near death. But hospice services are increasingly
being used by elder law clients as a way to increase quality of care for their loved ones living in
a care facility. What are the ramifications of this as attorneys
seeking to educate our clients on their rights, options and limitations? How does the
care industry handle coordination of care once hospice has been added
to a patient’s services?
This CLE will consist of a discussion
between an experienced medical professional and an elder law attorney who will
talk about the various issues that come up around hospice care and what future
developments/improvements could look like. We will emphasize what palliative
care and hospice are (and aren’t) as well as the Hospice Bill of Rights for
patients and the advantages and consequences to consider when deciding to start
hospice services.
