While technology had been
growing increasingly critical in navigating modern life, the COVID-19 pandemic
accelerated technology’s role in our lives making it an essential lifeline as
schools and workplaces moved their operations online. During this CLE we will
hear from representatives from two frontline organizations/partnerships (Minnesota Computers for Schools and ConnectedMN ) working to
expand digital access and address digital disparities in Minnesota. They will
discuss their organization’s mission, history, programming, and some of the
challenges they face both as an organization and in executing their goals.
Panelists will leave time to take questions on how their organization’s work,
mission, and obstacles may intersect with the work of attorneys practicing in
the communications field. We hope to have a robust discussion on some of the
barriers related to policy and statutes and how stakeholders in these related
fields can come together to problem-solve these difficult
issues.
Minnesota Computers for Schools
is an organization that works to close the digital divide in Minnesota by
collaborating with schools and community organizations to provide technology
solutions and skills training to individuals in need. ConnectedMN, supported by
Collectivity, is an alliance of public and private partners created in the wake
of COVID-19 to ensure students from high-need and underserved communities have
the tools and support they need to participate in digital learning.
