Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
What diversity, equity and inclusion goals did the Section include in the 2022-2023 work plan, how did you approach these goals, and what was the result?
Near the end of the 2021-2022 bar year, SLJ Section Council members met with HCBA President Brandon Vaughn regarding strategies to connect with under-represented section members. Personal contacts and mentor/mentee relationships identified as most promising. Plan: Continue raising awareness among Members re SLJ Section opportunities, especially diverse section leadership to focus on programs that address the interests/needs of our under-represented SLJ Members.
Other Section Accomplishments
- Continued to grow/develop SLJ Section Council members with good results. Additional leaders now onboard. Expanded programming focus to include broader Member interests relating to general life interests. Specifically, collaborating/sharing musical interests and creative health & wellness solutions while aging.
Good results. First official Jazz Jams event is now scheduled for 7/13/2023, 4:30-6 pm at Gluek’s downtown.
- Increased SLJ member involvement in planning/implementing activities.
NOTE: Allowing the fledgling SLJ Section to be an organic growth process vs a strict business model takes more time. However, the hybrid approach increases the potential to build a strong foundation to hold steady during this time of rapid change.
