In addition to the scheduled openings below, we are accepting applications for openings on the MSBA Board of Governors. To apply, please submit your

The additional openings are:
• One member from the affiliated district bar associations of 1, 8, 18, 19 and 21. You can find a map of the bar districts associations here.
• Two representatives from under-represented communities, which may but are not required to be members in the affinity bar associations.
• Two at-large members
At its June 2023 meeting, the MSBA Board of Governors will conduct elections for the following positions:
Minnesota State Bar Foundation Board of Directors – 5 open positions
The terms of Landon Ascheman, Ramsey County; Greger Calhan, Hennepin County; Kellen Fish, Hennepin County; James Reimann, Hennepin County; and Randi Roth, Ramsey County, expire June 30, 2023. Randi Roth has served three terms and is ineligible to serve an additional term, and Mr. Ascheman, Mr. Calhan, Mr. Fish, and Mr. Reimann are all eligible to serve additional terms.
MN Continuing Legal Education Board of Directors – 2 open positions
The terms of Shalanda Ballard, Hennepin County, and Jennifer Gilk, Redwood County, expire June 30, 2023. Both members have served one term and are eligible to serve an additional term.
MSBA Delegates to the ABA – 2 open positions
The terms of Sam Edmunds, Dakota County, and Sumbal Mahmud, Hennepin County, expire August 30, 2023. Ms. Mahmud has served two terms and is eligible to serve one additional term. Mr. Edmunds has served three terms and is ineligible to serve an additional term.
Interested, qualified members are encouraged to apply or to encourage any eligible Association member who is interested to apply. Please submit a resume and the Qualifications & Interest Form to Andrew Olson by May 1, 2023.
Elections/Appointments Committee
The Elections/Appointments Committee reviews Qualifications & Interest Forms submitted by members interested in serving on outside boards and related positions. Through that review and short interviews, the Committee develops recommendations for the Assembly to fill positions on a variety of boards.
Positions filled through this process include:
- MSBA Secretary (At-Large seat under Bylaw 9.2.3)
- Three Assembly Representative on the Board of Governors (Bylaw 7.2)
- MCLE Board
- Minnesota State Bar Foundation Board of Directors

- Bar Admissions Advisory Council (3 seats)
- Client Security Board (3 seats)
- Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board (6 seats)
