Event Description
Online registration for this event is closed,
please e-mail kkozicky@mnbars.org to

This will be an interactive session providing an overview of the
requirements, protections, and limitations of the various privileges (such as
attorney/client and accountant/client); “Kovel” engagements; and settlement
discussions and documentation. We will also cover various state and ABA
ethics and professional rules of conduct relating to these
matters.
These discussions will provide the backdrop for a more in-depth review
of intriguing future developments in this space in light of the recent Supreme
Court case denying certiorari in January, 2023 (In re Grand Jury case, Number
21-1397) – the case where disclosure to a grand jury of certain international
tax advice and tax return preparation documents to a client by a law firm was
held by the Ninth Circuit to be required, despite the firm’s assertion of both
attorney-client privilege and work-product doctrine. That assertion failed, and
the ramifications for the firm in this case and other situations like it are
very significant. Join us to talk about them!
Stay afterwards to play bocce ball, socialize and enjoy snacks and
beverages.
